We're partnering with an exceptional school district in Cook County, IL, searching for a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to provide individualized instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing in a therapeutic school environment.
In this role, you will support students of all ages who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by providing specialized instruction, promoting language development, and facilitating communication access. You will collaborate with general education teachers, staff, and families to ensure an inclusive learning environment that meets each student’s individual needs. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred but not required.
Please note: this position requires travel between mutliple school sites and a valid Illinois state driver's license. Mileage costs will be reimbursed.
Position Details:
- Location: In-person (no hybrid or remote options) at multiple school sites
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-time school schedule
- Start Date: January 2026
- End Date: April 2026
- Caseload: 20-30 students
- Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week
- Grade Levels: Various, Preschool-High School
Responsibilities:

Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across multiple grade levels and school sites.

Provide direct and consultative services to support 20-30 students in developing communication, language, academic, and social skills.

Modify curriculum and instruction to align with each student’s preferred communication mode and unique learning needs.

Utilize data-driven interventions and evidence-based strategies to promote language development, literacy, and overall academic achievement.

Collaborate with general education teachers, interpreters, audiologists, and related service providers across assigned schools to ensure consistent access to instruction and inclusion.

Foster self-advocacy, independence, and positive peer relationships through targeted instruction and support.

Maintain regular communication with families and staff to monitor student progress and promote a coordinated approach to each learner’s success.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or related field.

Professional Educator License (PEL) with DHH Teaching endorsement in the state of Illinois.

Prior experience supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in special education or inclusive classroom settings; experience working in an itinerant setting across multiple school sites preferred.

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred, but not required.

Valid Illinois state driver’s license.
