This full-time position is based in Burton, MI, located just outside of Flint, and focuses on supporting middle and high school students through evaluation, individualized planning, and specialized instruction.
The Special Education Teacher will provide comprehensive educational services to students with disabilities at the secondary level. The role involves conducting student evaluations, completing REEDs (Review of Existing Evaluation Data), writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and facilitating IEP team (IEPT) meetings. The ideal candidate is an organized and collaborative educator who can balance instructional responsibilities with compliance documentation to ensure each student’s success.

Responsibilities
-
Complete REEDs and student evaluation assessments to determine eligibility and service needs.

Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Facilitate IEPT meetings, collaborating with parents, staff, and related service providers.

Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, and functional areas based on student needs.

Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports for compliance and monitoring.

Collaborate with general education teachers and specialists to support inclusive practices.

Advocate for students’ educational and social success.
Qualifications
-
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement (required).

Certification and experience at the secondary level (grades 6–12) preferred.

Knowledge of REED, evaluation procedures, and IEP development processes.

Strong understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and state special education compliance standards.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented educational environment.
