We’re partnering with Prospect Heights School District 23 in Cook County, Illinois to hire a dedicated Special Education Teacher (LBS1) for a Self-Contained Life Skills Classroom at Eisenhower Elementary School for the 2025–2026 school year. This is a full-time, in-person position supporting kindergarten and first-grade students with diverse learning needs.

Position Summary

The Special Education Teacher will lead a self-contained life skills classroom serving kindergarten and first-grade students. This role includes delivering individualized instruction, implementing behavior plans, coordinating inclusion opportunities, and managing support staff to ensure a structured and positive learning environment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, compassionate educator who thrives in a collaborative setting and is dedicated to supporting each student’s growth and independence.

Position Details

  • Position: Special Education Teacher (LBS1 – Self-Contained Life Skills Classroom)

  • Location: In-person, Eisenhower Elementary School, Prospect Heights School District 23, Cook County, IL

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • End Date: June 5, 2026

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:55 AM–2:55 PM; some Mondays until 3:55 PM

  • Hours: Full-time, includes a 30-minute duty-free lunch daily

  • Grade Levels: Kindergarten–1st Grade

  • School Year: 2025–2026

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a self-contained classroom supporting students’ academic, social, and life skill development.

  • Deliver direct instruction and curriculum in individualized and small-group settings.

  • Manage daily schedules and coordinate students’ inclusion time in general education settings.

  • Implement and monitor behavior intervention plans to promote engagement and positive classroom behavior.

  • Collaborate with related service providers to integrate accommodations, modifications, and IEP goal work.

  • Supervise and direct Educational Support Professionals (paraprofessionals) to ensure consistent support for all students.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Special Education endorsement (required).

  • Experience in self-contained or life skills classroom settings preferred.

  • Strong understanding of IEP development, accommodations, and modifications.

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach to supporting students and staff.
